Patients usually have many questions as they go through the transplant process. It is important to ask members of your transplant team any questions about transplantation and your health. Below is a list of questions you may want to ask.

General Questions

• What are my choices besides transplantation?
• What are the benefits and risks of transplantation?
• What does the evaluation and testing process include?
• How do my test results affect whether or not I am put on the list?
• What are the transplant success rates at this hospital?
• How many transplants do you perform at this hospital each year?
• How long has this hospital been doing transplants?
• How do you decide what organ you will accept for me?
• Are there any organs that you won’t accept for me?
• How many attending surgeons are available to do my type of transplant?
• Who will tell me about the transplant process?
• Is there a special nursing unit for transplant patients?
• Can I tour the transplant center?
• Will I be asked to take part in research studies?
• Does the hospital do living donor transplants?
• Is a living donor transplant a choice in my case? If so, where will the living donor evaluation be done?
• What is the organ recovery cost if I have a living donor?

Financial Questions

• What part of the transplant cost is covered by my insurance?
• What financial coverage is accepted by the hospital?
• How much will I have to pay?
